Design Inside Film takes a look inside a modern Dutch house with stunning sea views. It was designed by Lody Trap, a Dutch architect who has previously designed several impressive coastal residences near Amsterdam. Lody Trap was born on Texel, a small Island in the North of The Netherlands. He established his independent practice in Alkmaar in year 1989 after studying at the Academie van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam, influenced by his father, a contractor. He received the 2016 AIA Architectuurprijs for his design of the PCC ( Petrus Canisius College) in Heiloo, which was recognized as the most beautiful building in the area.
This particular costal house was designed as a holiday home. The starting point was the client’s desire to have a direct view of the sea from the bed in the master bedroom. The surroundings provided the impetus to fulfill this desire in the interior as well. We had the pleasure of speaking with Lody about his idea of designing the building primarily from the inside, as well as the relationship between materials and climatic conditions.
Lody designed 8 costal houses near Amsterdam. You can see 5 of them in our short film.
