Design Inside Film had a pleasure to meet Ignacio Merino Rivero, an architect and co-founded of a prominent, award-winning architecture studio FLOW81 which is based in Málaga. The philosophy of FLOW81 is to let the architecture flow in the environment. Let it be as non-invasive as possible. Every building have to be different because every location and plot is different. We took a short look at houses Alcornoque and Las Nubes. Villa Alcornoque is located on the outskirts of the famous, picturesque village of Benahavís, near Marbella. FLOW81 successfully addressed the challenge of a complex plot with a 30% slope to achieve sea views, while preserving the natural environment. Villa Las Nubes is also located near Marbella, in famous village of Sotogrande, which is a prestigious alternative to busier Costa del Sol spots. The conditions of the site, characterised by the presence of 133 pine trees, together with a 26% slope and an unfavourable orientation, were the main challenges that guided the design of the villa. Each of this project tells a story rooted in place and purpose and has absolutely unique, unexpected design. Ignacio Merino showed us also one of the latest projects – Utamed – Universidad Tecnológica Atlántico Mediterráneo, which is Spain’s first fully online private university, launched in Andalusia. FLOW81 literally blures indoor-outdoor boundaries by using natural materials, maximizing light and views.
